Celtic music has been an integral part of the Durango music scene for over 30 years. A half dozen Celtic groups and bands influenced by Celtic music perform in the area. And the Irish Embassy Pub has supported a traditional Celtic session every Sunday for ten years. Now Stillwater is offering an introduction to the genre. This evening class is designed for adults who play Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar, Banjo, Penny Whistle, Flute, Keyboards, and the Bodhran (Celtic drum). Singers are also invited. All players at all levels are welcome. Reading music is encouraged but not required. We will learn jigs, reels, airs and songs by ear as well as notation. We will also explore Celtic lore and the stories behind the tunes. The goal is to reach a performance level for ten or twelve tunes and to play out in the community. This course is designed for adults; however older teens and young adults are certainly welcome.
